Coming Soon: Trauma Touch TherapyTM

Trauma Touch TherapyTM (TTT) is a form of somatic bodywork designed to assist people with trauma histories. Conventional talk therapy is effective when working with a person’s rational part of the brain to help process these past experiences, though it does not directly impact the trauma that is held in the body. Even with successes in talk therapy, it is known that trauma may still impact the body. The survival part of the brain may remain hypervigilant due to trauma-altered neural connections and may induce a trauma response in the body, even in the absence of a threat (Van der Kolk, 2014).Trauma Touch TherapyTM is focused on improving changes in these neural connections helping clients learning to be present with both their body and with sensations.

Trauma Touch TherapyTM sessions are conducted with the client fully clothed, and are client-directed, depending on the needs of their body at that time. The Trauma Touch therapist will offer options for exploration to the client during each session. These may include contact, breath work, play, movement or some combination of these. Clients will meet with their Trauma Touch therapist over a series of ten sessions allowing for the work to unfold at its own pace. The goals of TTT are to provide clients a safe space, ample time, and guidance from their therapist while exploring their bodies through the means of sensation and healthy, positive touch (Smith, 1995).

Mandy Baker has completed the 50-hr TTT Level I course at the Colorado School of Healing Arts, Lakewood, CO in December of 2022 and is currently enrolled in the 50-hr TTT Level II course, which is completed as an externship here at the Downeast School of Massage in Waldoboro, Maine. After completing this externship, Mandy will be a certified Trauma Touch Therapist and will be able to offer this service to the community at her Belfast office. If you are interested in participating in this externship as a client (or perhaps as a future client), or are simply interested in learning more, please reach out by email, text, or telephone so we can connect.
